Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA)
This regulated and nationally recognised qualification provides learners with the opportunity to develop the basic skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency paediatric first aid situations which could arise when looking after children.
This HSE course give you a good understanding of how emergency paediatric first aid is incredibly important for the safety of children and it could mean the difference between life and death.
Upon the expiry, the same course must be taken again to maintain the Qualification.
Aspects of the Course:
- The roles and responsibilities of an emergency paediatric first aider
- Assessing an emergency situation
- Dealing with an unresponsive infant or child
- Recovery Position
- CPR and defibrillation
- Choking
- Minor Injuries
- Bites and Stings
- Seizures
- Bleeding and Shock
Assessments:
- Ongoing assessment by the instructor of the candidate’s practical skills.
- Successful completion of a fifteen question multiple choice paper.
Recomendations:
Should you work in a medium to high-risk working environment we would strongly recommend the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid qualification.

If you prefer a more streamlined option, we recommend the Basic Life Support – Adult + Paediatric (BLSAP) course. It delivers all essential core components, like CPR and Defibrillation, while keeping the material concise and focused.
